Sources told Redwire that Tan, an experienced banker turned entrepreneur, is considering an offer from the SDP.
Hailed as a “Lim Tean with substance”, he is likely to be a star candidate if he accepts.
Tan now owns Kopi Ong, an atas kopitiam that serves coffee to the CBD crowd.
His coffee business has been widely featured in publications like the Straits Times and Business Times for leveraging technology to sell kopi.
His entrepreneurial streak saw him becoming a poster boy for DBS’ “Foodster” service, an initiative by the bank to allow consumers to order food and drinks online and pay using its PayLah! Service.
His last appearance at a SDP forum was in September 2018, when he slammed the government’s public housing policy for leading to “senseless market speculative activities”.
In an eloquent speech, he criticised the Asset Enhancement Scheme for inflating the prices of HDB flats despite their real value falling as their lease runs down.
